Glenview Mansion & Gardens- Rockville, MD
Originally a humble 1838 two story farm house on 500 acres, Glenview was transformed in 1923 by Lochie and Porter into today’s magnificent Neo-Classical mansion. Commissioned by James and Irene Lyon, they used the country estate for entertaining. In 1954, the mansion and 28 acres were sold to the Montgomery Country Historical Society for use as a civic center. Although the interior has been reconfigured, the garden remains largely intact. With fabulous stonework, lush landscaping and a central fountain, it’s a peaceful retreat from the outside world.

Carnegie Library- Washington, DC
As I am not an apostle of Apple, I usually avoid their stores like the plague. I had to make an exception for the Apple Carnegie Library in D.C., because a renovated 1901 Beaux Arts beauty is not to be missed, regardless of its current tenant. I must admit, the space is stunning. If you must to go to an Apple store, go to this one.

UNC Finley Golf Course- Chapel Hill, NC
Carved out of a Carolina pine forest, the official course of the Tar Heels is a fun play for everyone. Originally a 1949 George Cobb design funded by Raleigh businessman Albert Finley, Tom Fazio completely remodeled the course in 1999. Challenging, but with wide fairways, it’s a meandering course, full of wildlife and lacking houses. Kept in excellent condition, it is one of the best public courses in North Carolina.
