Inn at Vaucluse Spring- Stephens City, VA

The Inn at Vaucluse Spring is more of a compound than a hotel, consisting of 7 buildings scattered across an idyllic piece of land, with a crystal clear spring and mountain views. Rest assured, it’s a Kennedy’s on the Cape compound situation, rather than the Waco variety.

Consisting of 15 unique guest rooms, the property includes a 1785 Manor House, an artist studio built on the foundation of an Old Mill, a cabin converted from a former North Carolina tobacco barn, and several  guest cottages. The Federal Style Manor House is the most historic, featuring original floors, cherry and walnut doors, and large windows- through which injured soldiers were carried during the Civil War.

Built in 1785 by Revolutionary War Captain Strother Jones, the Manor House remained in his family for generations before eventually being abandoned. Indeed, it sat vacant for over 50 years until it was fully restored in the 1990s for use as an Inn. At times, the property has featured a full service restaurant on the first floor of the Manor House, but all dining has been discontinued since 2020.

In fact, since COVID, the only rooms available at the Inn are the Cabin and Old Mill, which in no way detracts from the experience. In fact, it makes it feel like your own secluded piece of paradise, perfect for a weekend of rest and relaxation. The Cabin, with its rocking chairs and fireplace, couldn’t be cozier, and the adjacent spring is absolutely enchanting.
