One&Only Palmilla is absolutely magnificent. A bastion of laid back luxury, its dense tropical foliage and dramatic location will impress even the most demanding traveler. A quiet, relaxing oasis, a world apart from nearby Cabo San Lucas, it deserves all the accolades it receives.
Dating to the 1950s, the property was originally a private 15 room home, accessible only by helicopter. Built in 1956 by Don Abelardo Rodriquez, son of Mexico’s then president, it was the location that attracted him to the site. Exceedingly remote, the rocky peninsula offered dramatic ocean views, and solitude.
Although construction of the Carretera Transpeninsular, a highway that runs the length of the Baja Peninsula, made the resort more accessible, it is still remarkably private. A rarified world of butlers and breathtaking views, it is a veritable tropical oasis that feels like your own private sanctuary.
Consisting of a collection of low slung Spanish Revival buildings with red terra cotta roofs, the grounds are lushly landscaped with towering palms and tropical plants.
Narrow stone paths discretely cross the property. Nestled in the hillside above the resort, a quaint chapel, with commanding views of the Sea of Cortez.
While the pool complexes here are amazing (including an adult only option with swim up bar) the property also offers one of the only swimmable beaches in the area.
Complete with a thatched roof bar, which serves a ridiculously refreshing margarita, it has to be one of the most magical places on earth. Crystal clear water, powder sand, and towering rock formations create a backdrop like few others in this world.
The rooms here are comfortable, spacious, and all offer excellent views. Some find the interiors dated instead of quaint; for those who prefer modern architecture, this probably isn’t your place. It is also the quiet side of Cabo, so if Vegas is more your vibe, you may want to look somewhere else as well.
For those looking for quiet relaxation and understated luxury however, this property is perfect. With excellent dining options, adjacent 27 hole Jack Nicklaus golf course, and unapparelled service, a stay here is an unforgettable experience.
