Angus Glen Golf Club: South- Markham, ON

Opened in 1995, the South Course is the older of the two tracks at Angus Glen. Extremely popular when it debuted, the Doug Carrick design was pronounced the best new golf course in Canada that year by Golf Digest, and hosted the Canadian Open just a few years later.

In 2013, the course was reworked by Mackenzie and Ebert, before hosting the Pan Am Games in 2015. Today, if you ask most people, the South is the preferred course. It is definitely the more difficult of the two, and the more scenic as well.

Visually, it is more interesting than the North, with more variety in terrain. More water and wetlands come into play, and there are several forced layups. I may have been expecting too much, based on reputation, but I wasn’t crazy about the course. It was nice, it was in good condition, but it felt overpriced and crowded. I am glad I played this course once, but would not return for another round.
